Bilal’s Stand, a feature film written and directed by local filmmaker Sultan Sharrief, has been accepted to the Sundance Film Festival’s NEXT category. It tells the story of Bilal, a Detroit high school student, and his struggle to pursue his dream of higher education.
Sultan and the Bilal’s Stand post production crew are busily pulling together the final pieces of this unique piece of art. Between finalizing the sound, fundraising for an HD transfer, and making sure that every detail gets the attention that it deserves, there’s a lot to do!
We are thrilled to announce that Bilal’s Stand has been accepted to the Sundance Film Festival’s NEXT category. According to John Cooper, the Director of Sundance, (as quoted in the Hollywood Reporter), the NEXT category “is designed to cordon off space for low and no-budget filmmaking and is a showcase for eight ‘younger, fresher’ American filmmakers that live and breathe true indie spirit.”
